| Name origin | AC comes from the initials of the company's early names. It began as Autocars and Accessories in 1904 and became Auto Carriers Ltd. in 1911, and the letters A and C carried through every later change of owner and corporate name. | The name was devised by engineer Geoffrey de Freville. Theories linked it to aluminium and the Latin vis, or to the Norse smith Alvíss, but de Freville rejected them and said the name had no meaning and was simply easy to pronounce in any language. |

Logo dates are archive labels; symbols dated before a brand's founding are excluded from its earliest-logo date. Asset counts include all archived variants, not just redesigns. A dash means a value is unavailable.
