| Name origin | The sources used for this short profile do not explain the origin of the Air Wisconsin name. | The airline was founded as WestJet Express in 1997. After a trademark dispute with Westjet Air Center of Rapid City, South Dakota, and because the name resembled Canada's WestJet, it adopted the name Allegiant Air. |
