| Name origin | Air Europa means "Air Europe" in Spanish. The airline started in 1986 as part of the British ILG-Air Europe Group and used Air Europa titles on a livery similar to Air Europe's, though its registered company name at first was Air España SA. | Iberia takes its name from the Iberian Peninsula, the landmass shared by Spain and Portugal. The company was incorporated in 1927 as Iberia, Compañía Aérea de Transportes, and the name stayed registered through the years it had no operations. |
