Name originThe sources used for this page do not explain how the Jetstar name was chosen. The name combines the words "jet" and "star", and the logo shows the star literally, but no official statement of intent was found. The airline launched as Virgin Blue in 2000. The Virgin part comes from Richard Branson's Virgin Group, and Blue came from an open naming competition, as a play on the red livery and the Australian slang for a red-haired man. It became Virgin Australia in 2011.
