| Name origin | KTM stands for Kronreif & Trunkenpolz Mattighofen. The company was renamed that way in 1953 after businessman Ernst Kronreif became a major shareholder alongside founder Hans Trunkenpolz, in the Upper Austrian town of Mattighofen. | Wikipedia states that Aprilia was named after the pre-war Lancia Aprilia, a car. The company was founded by Cavaliere Alberto Beggio in Noale, near Venice, so the name is not a family surname. |
