Short answer
What the Genesis logo symbol means
Genesis has not published an official meaning for its wings. The winged badge, with a shield and the word Genesis at the center, goes back to the 2008 Hyundai Genesis sedan and carried over to the standalone brand announced on 4 November 2015. Readings such as speed, flight or luxury are interpretation of the design, not stated company intent. What Genesis has said is that the original metallic finish was inspired by the chrome common on luxury cars, and its designers have tied the wing shape to the split headlight line on the cars.

The Genesis Winged Shield

The wings
Two outstretched wings with layered feather lines spread across the full width of the mark. Genesis has not published a meaning for them, and they are commonly read as a sign of speed or flight.
Highlighted on the logoThe shield
A pointed, crest-like shield sits at the center of the wings. It holds the name and works as the compact badge shape seen on hoods and steering wheels.
Highlighted on the logoName in the shield
The word GENESIS appears in bold capitals inside the shield, so the central badge identifies the brand even without the wordmark below it.
Highlighted on the logoThe wordmark
The GENESIS lettering under the emblem uses light, widely spaced capitals with simple, evenly drawn strokes. It is a clean sans-serif style that contrasts with the heavy wings above.

What is documented about the Genesis wings logo
The facts are modest. The emblem has had wide, outstretched wings and a centered Genesis name since its first appearance. It began on the Hyundai Genesis, the rear-wheel-drive sedan Hyundai launched at the 2008 North American International Auto Show, before the name became its own brand. The brand was announced as independent on 4 November 2015, and its first model, the G90, arrived that December.
The wings and shield are the constant. The 2008 and 2015 versions render the wings as polished metal with shading, and the 2020 version is flat black. Neither the company nor the sources reviewed here credit a designer for the emblem.
What Genesis has said about its wings logo
Genesis has said the original emblem's metal-like color was inspired directly by the large amounts of chrome used in luxury cars. That explains the finish, not the wings. When the logo was later simplified into a flat, two-dimensional design, Genesis designers described it as an influence on the front end styling, with the split-level headlights said to resemble the wings.
You can see that on the cars. The G80 in the photo carries two thin horizontal light bars on each side of the grille, a shape that rhymes with the spread wings of the badge.
Genesis wings, Bentley and the luxury look
Wide winged badges are a familiar luxury signal, used by Bentley, Aston Martin and Chrysler. Genesis chose the same broad outline, which makes the emblem read as premium from a distance. That is a comparison, not an official statement of intent, and Genesis has not said it drew on any of those marques.
The Genesis version is distinct in one respect. The wings are layered with fine feather lines, and the shield at their center is a compact badge that works on hoods and steering wheels as well as on signage.
Why is the brand called Genesis?
Genesis is an English word for an origin or beginning. Hyundai used it first for the 2008 sedan, and then for the luxury brand. The sources reviewed here do not state why the name was chosen, so a link between the word and the wings is speculation.

Frequently asked questions

What does the Genesis logo mean?
It is a pair of outstretched wings with a shield carrying the brand name at the center. Common readings such as speed or flight are interpretations, not company statements.
Is the Genesis logo a copy of Bentley's?
No source reviewed here says so. Both use a winged badge, but the Genesis wings are layered feather lines around a shield and the Bentley badge is a different design. Winged emblems are common among luxury makers.
When did the Genesis logo first appear?
The winged emblem dates from the 2008 Hyundai Genesis sedan. The standalone Genesis brand was announced on 4 November 2015.
