Company history
Beta Logo History
Beta began in 1904 as a bicycle maker named Societร Giuseppe Bianchi, first in Via Bellariva and later in Florence. It started developing motorcycles in 1948. The 1950 Ital had a 125 cc British JAP engine, and in 1951 the first motorcycle with the Beta name replaced it with a German engine. From 1952 it used engines made by FBM, a company set up by Franco Morini, and those engines carried the Beta logo on the side covers.
Beta built two-stroke street bikes in the 1950s and 1960s and moved into motocross in 1967 with the 100 cc XC-100. In 1972 the factory moved from Florence to Rignano sull'Arno, which gave it room for off-road test tracks. Trials bikes followed from 1980, KTM-engined four-stroke enduro bikes in 2004, and in 2010 a redesigned RR range with an engine developed in-house. The company is now run by Lapo Bianchi, a great-grandson of the founder.

The story behind the mark
Beta Logo Meaning
A slanted B in an oval, over the Italian tricolor.
The mark pairs the letter B with an oval outline and a tricolor stripe. Wikipedia notes that FBM engines made for Beta from 1952 carried the Beta logo on the side covers, but it does not describe what that early logo looked like.
No designer of the current emblem is credited in the sources consulted, and the company has not published a meaning for the oval.
