Short answer
Why the Ford logo has this color
Nobody outside Ford can point to a documented reason, and Ford itself has not published one. What is documented is the timing: Ford's own history identifies the 1927 Model A as the first Ford vehicle to wear the blue oval badge, after the company's best-known early car, the Model T, spent years being sold in black. Claims that the blue stands for trust, reliability or strength are interpretation, not company intent.

The black Model T and the Ford blue oval
The Model T is the car most people picture when they think of early Ford, and it is easy to assume the blue oval rode on it. It did not. The Model T wore a script nameplate, as the car in the photo shows, and the blue oval came later.
The Model T is also remembered for color, or the lack of it. Henry Ford's autobiography has him saying any customer could have a car painted any color so long as it was black. According to Wikipedia, the line dates to a remark he made to his managers in 1909, and the black-only policy took hold in 1914. Wikipedia also notes that early Model Ts came in other colors, including gray, green, blue and red, so the black Model T and the blue oval are two separate chapters.
The 1927 Model A and the first Ford blue oval
Ford's heritage account identifies the 1927 Model A as the first Ford vehicle to carry the blue oval badge. That is the firmest fact on this page. The script itself is older. It is commonly credited to Ford's first chief engineer, Childe Harold Wills, and had already been placed inside an oval by 1917.
What the Model A source does not say is why the oval was blue. Ford's published history describes the badge and when it arrived, and gives no reason for the color. The same blue oval, redrawn many times, is the one on the grille of a pickup like the F-150 above.
Did Henry Ford choose the Ford logo blue?
It is tempting to credit the founder, but the sources used here do not. Ford's heritage material credits Wills, not Henry Ford, with shaping the script, and nothing found ties Henry Ford to a decision about blue. Saying he picked it would be a guess.
The safest wording is the plain one: the blue oval appeared on a production Ford in 1927, and the reason is not on record.
Popular explanations for the Ford blue logo
You will find blue described as the color of trust, stability and dependability. Those readings come from logo blogs and branding commentary, not from Ford, and they could be applied to almost any blue badge on the road. They are interpretation. Ford Blue as a named color on the brand page is a description of what the badge looks like, not a statement of intent.
Here is a quick way to sort claims. If a source quotes a Ford document or a dated Ford vehicle, it is documented. If it says the blue "represents" something, ask who said so.

Frequently asked questions
Ford logo color questions answered
Why is the Ford logo blue?
Ford has not published a reason. Its heritage account says the 1927 Model A was the first Ford vehicle to carry the blue oval, but it does not explain the color. Meanings such as trust or reliability are interpretation.
When did Ford start using the blue oval?
Ford's own history identifies the 1927 Model A as the first Ford vehicle to wear the blue oval badge. The script inside an oval had appeared by 1917.
Was the Model T always black?
No. Wikipedia says early Model Ts came in colors including gray, green, blue and red, and that the black-only policy was implemented in 1914. Ford's remark about any color so long as it was black comes from his autobiography.
Is the Ford script Henry Ford's signature?
Not literally. The lettering resembles a signature, but Ford's heritage material credits engineer Childe Harold Wills with shaping it.
Is Ford blue the same as Chevrolet gold or Ferrari yellow?
No. Each brand uses color differently, and each has a different level of documentation. Ford has no stated reason for its blue, while Ferrari has described its yellow as the color of Modena.
