Upcoming Electric Cars: Analysis

BMW iX3 Neue Klasse Technology

The Neue Klasse iX3’s Heart of Joy controller manages the drivetrain, braking, recuperation and steering functions together. BMW also uses cylindrical cells integrated directly into the battery pack. Those linked mechanical and electronic changes make it our first architecture-led choice. The BMW archive gives background to the manufacturer introducing this generation.

Porsche Macan Electric Platform

The electric Macan uses Premium Platform Electric, with an 800-volt electrical architecture. Its dedicated platform distinguishes it from the earlier petrol Macan rather than simply changing the engine under an existing body. Choose the electric model explicitly when comparing hardware. Porsche’s history follows the marque’s move from sports cars into different SUV powertrains.

Hyundai IONIQ 9 Three-Row Cabin

IONIQ 9 uses Hyundai’s dedicated E-GMP architecture in a three-row SUV. The cabin role separates it from the smaller BMW and Porsche choices, with passenger access and luggage use becoming central to the decision. Hyundai specifies high-voltage fast-charging capability, although actual charging depends on conditions. The Hyundai archive gives context to the IONIQ family.

Our verdict

Our Verdict

Start with iX3 for the new control and battery architecture, Macan Electric for PPE and IONIQ 9 for the three-row electric cabin. The strongest choice depends on which change serves the buyer.

Strengths

  • Each choice has a distinct documented architecture or cabin role
  • The review separates model generations and markets

Things to consider

  • Architecture is not a common road-test score
  • Market-specific equipment and charging conditions affect ownership
