Name originHonda is the surname of founder Soichiro Honda. The company was first set up as the Honda Technical Research Institute in 1946, and the family name became the brand without any invented word or acronym.Nissan is a contraction of Nihon Sangyo, the Japanese name of Yoshisuke Aikawa's holding company, which was abbreviated that way on the Tokyo Stock Exchange in the 1930s. The automobile business that took the name grew out of Aikawa's group and the earlier DAT and Datsun cars.
